Position Summary

Academic advising and supporting for undergraduate and graduate students are an integral part of the learning mission of the University. The Student Success Navigator (Academic Advisor) will present the curriculum required for each part of a degree and fully explain the courses’ rationale and assist students in integrating the degree requirements as one part of a student’s overall career plan. This position provides firm information about degree programs and support students in making more informed decisions as they matriculate and move through each year of study. Graduate and undergraduate advising is one key component within the University’s infrastructure to support all students as they work towards their success, including learning, retention, and graduation.

This position provides holistic and comprehensive outreach, onboarding, and support services to minority, adult, and low-income students. The Student Success Navigator provides integrated support services to prospective students through a comprehensive outreach and onboarding process, with initiatives focused on driving enrollment growth and building relationships with applicants through high-touch, proactive services, and support. The Student Success Navigator’s focus is on engaging with prospective students in two-way conversations and providing information, support, and guidance while connecting them to students’ services and support. This role will provide recruitment services while collaborating with various campus offices to provide a seamless and connected prospect and applicant experience.

Specific Duties

  • Monitor advisees’ progress and provide regular data on program progress and participation in program leadership.
  • Provide proactive, personalized, and integrated engagement to prospective students, primarily through phone and digital outreach, focusing on minority, adult, low-income, and underrepresented students.
  • Connect and refer students to the various resources and support arms across the University and beyond services.
  • The Student Success Navigator will monitor academic progress for continuing eligibility, transfer eligibility, graduation, produce academic grade reports, oversee mentoring of at-risk students, and communicate with the coaching staff.
  • Collaborates and participates in New Student Orientation: make presentations; advise and register students for classes; resolve issues, and evaluate courses.
  • Advise students on options to satisfy degree requirements, program changes, and resolution of academic problems.
  • Upholds the academic standards of the institution.

Qualification and Desired Characteristics

  • An earned Master’s degree in a relevant area is required.
  • At least one year of academic advising experience is required.
  • Familiarity and knowledge on federal, state, and higher education policies and procedures is required.
  • Teaching experience at the University or Community College preferred.
