Position Summary

The Vice President for Finance and Administration is the chief financial officer (CFO) for the University and is responsible to the University’s President for all institutional business and fiscal affairs of the Institution. erves as the Chief Development Officer with executive leadership responsibility for the management of all advancement staff and programs, including the annual fund,, major gift development, corporate and foundation support, planned giving, grants, and alumni relations. Working in support of the mission and goals of the University, the CFO serves as a member of the President’s executive staff and makes recommendations to the President in areas of finance, planning, policy, administration and student financial services.

Primary Functions

Area of Leadership and Administration

  • Collaborates with the Accounting personnel in the preparation for a smooth annual external audit.
  • Develops and submits written proposals for funding projects related to capital planning for IT and University facilities.
  • Leads and provides leadership and direction as a member of the President’s Cabinet to promote and ensure sound practices in the the development and fulfillment of the University’s mandate and strategic plan.
  • Leads the University in the development of budgets aligned to the institutional mission.
  • Play a leadership part in planning activities that promote the University’s culture and goals.
  • Provides guidance, leadership, and strategic direction in the development and management of University-wide policies, practices, processes, and services.
  • Provides professional advise about best practices in all business operations.
  • Submits the Audited Financial Statements.
  • Support processes and functions toward continuous improvement in all business functions that support efficiency and high quality service.
  • Supports staff in aligning their personal and professional goals with the University’s mission and Strategic Plan for the University.
  • Supports the Foundation’s Board of Directors and its committees to fulfill its governance and financial responsibilities.
  • Work In Partnership with others to identify and solve institutional challenges.

Area of Accountability and Governance

  • Prepares and presents the operational and financial information the President and at Board of Trustees meetings to assist the Board and the President in executing the strategic plans for the University.
  • Develops, proposes policies, and share budget documents with the Board as needed.
  • Manages tenders, contracts, insurance, banking, and other services as required.

Accountability 3: Financial Management and Budget

  • Prepares the budgets for the University’s Multi-year Business Plans.
  • Prepares annual financial statements to be consolidated in the annual Form 990 each year and submitted to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
  • Develops, submits, and presents financial reports for approval by the Board of Trustee.
  • Oversees all business and financial operations that include purchasing, payroll, budgeting, accounts payable, financial accounting and reporting, student financial services, financial aid, equipment inventory control, facilities master planning (including ADA facilities compliance), leased auxiliary enterprises, maintenance, safety and security, mail distribution, printing, and switchboard operations.
  • Maintains internal controls to ensure that financial transactions are based upon University’s established procedures as required by the Board of Trustees and the University’s auditors.

Qualifications and Desired Characteristics

  • An earned Master’s degree with a major in business administration,finance, public administration, economics, or a related field; a PhD is preferred.
  • At least four years of experience and leadership in higher education with progressive responsible positions in finances  management.
  • Familiarity with the accreditation process and expectation in higher education.
  • Hands on experience in human-resources services and/or facilities development and maintenance (preferred).
  • Ability to motivate, manage, and  influence diverse array of dedicated professionals, while emphasizing a high level of quality in all deliverables.
  • Communicates effectively in a professional, tactful and courteous manner with students, employees, faculty, and the general public.

Secondary Functions

  • Performs additional and related responsibilities as shall be assigned by the President.
